‘Perfect beach’ has miles of golden sand and ‘delicious’ restaurants nearby | UK | Travel

A hidden treasure along the Yorkshire coast boasts miles of pristine golden beaches and is encircled by delightful destinations for culinary enthusiasts.

Sandsend sits merely eight minutes from the popular tourist destination of Whitby, yet its tranquil shoreline, free from throngs of visitors, feels worlds apart from the  vibrant cultural centre located just three miles away, reports The Whitby Guide.

Situated between Teesside and Kingston upon Hull lies the charming village of Sandsend, cradled at the base of the striking North York Moors. Historically, Sandsend thrived largely on tourism attracted by the Whitby, Redcar and Middlesbrough Union Railway during the era when national rail sparked a tourism explosion.

Regrettably, its railway station shuttered in 1958.

Nowadays, Sandsend’s peaceful beach reaches its full glory at low tide, with abundant rock pools and expansive stretches of sand creating an ideal setting for family strolls and discovery, reports Yorkshire Live.

The Sandsend Trail offers a stunning walk providing sweeping vistas of the ocean and neighbouring moorland for those seeking a more substantial excursion.

For gastronomes, the conclusion of your ramble marks the start of your culinary adventure, as excellent dining establishments surround Sandsend.

The village pub – The Hart Inn – remains a local favourite, serving superb traditional pub fare. One diner said: “Four of us ate three courses here and everything was delicious. Both the fish and batter were cooked to perfection, the steak was tender and cooked exactly as requested, the lasagna was tasty and homemade.

“I can definitely recommend the seafood starter and monkfish bites. Finally the White chocolate cheesecake with Bailey cream finished the meal off perfectly. Oh and the staff were friendly and attentive. Definitely worth a visit.”

For those seeking something a touch more refined, Estbek House boasts an impressive 4.5/5 rating on TripAdvisor, with a menu brimming with exquisite fresh seafood hauled straight from the neighbouring waters. The Georgian structure once served as headquarters for the alum mining trade before being reimagined as this highly praised dining establishment.

A diner awarded their visit a full 5/5 on TripAdvisor, noting: “Great food and lovely service. Excellent recommendations for food from the menu…the cod and smoked haddock mornay in scallop shells was divine!”.

A mere 10-minute drive from Sandsend beach sits Dunsley Hall, where the restaurant serves up reliably excellent, unfussy cuisine executed to perfection. Diners have raved about the exceptional care they’ve received.

One guest gave the experience top marks on TripAdvisor, saying: “We started with quite low expectations. The menu was quite limited. What a lovely surprise! The bacon ribeye was great and the vegetables were perfect. At £45 for two this was excellent value too. The dining room lacks atmosphere but with food this good who cares!”.
