Fury at ISIS fanatics’ ‘easy life’ inside ‘soft’ UK prison | UK | News
A pair of Islamic State extremists are living a “cushy” life inside a UK prison where they are given £20 a week to spend on food, DVD players and educational courses. Walid Saadaoui, 38, and Amar Hussein, 52, were convicted last week over a gun plot to massacre Jews and Christians in Manchester.
They are now behind bars at the Category B Preston Prison ahead of their sentencing on February 13 next year. They are currently on a standard regime which includes being given money to spend in the canteen, watching films, being able to make phone calls and going to the gym. They can also sign up for education courses and vocational training.
As reported by The Sun, a source said: “It’s outrageous they are together in a cushy medium-security prison like Preston rather than a tough, high-security one. They are clearly a huge danger but their regime means they can mix freely and do things like make phone calls and order books and DVDs to their cells.
“They are also being given £20 per week of taxpayers’ money which they can spend on canteen treats like chocolate, crisps and fizzy drinks. They will also have access to the mosque and to chaplains and psychologists.
“When you look at the contrast between how dangerous their plot was and what comfortable conditions they are being held in, it makes you sick. It shows what a state the prison system is in.”
The pair, who were born in Tunisia but live in Bolton, were convicted on Tuesday, December 23. The court heard how they ordered weapons, including AK47s, in preparation to carry out a terrorist attack in Manchester.
However, their plan was thwarted by undercover police officers. Saadaoui and Hussein told one officer they were targeting Jews, but if they killed any Christians, that would be a “bonus”.
