World’s best boss gifts all 540 staff £327k after selling company | US | News
A factory boss has handed each of his 540 workers a staggering £327,000 bonus following the sale of his business for more than £1 billion. In a remarkable display of generosity, Graham Walker, the former chief executive of American electrical company Fibrebond, distributed 15% of the sale proceeds to his workforce – an incredible average of $443,000 per person (around £327,000).
The 46-year-old’s Louisiana-based enterprise was snapped up by power-management firm Eaton earlier this year for an eye-watering $1.7 billion (approximately £1.2 billion). But Graham chose to reward his loyal employees in spectacular fashion. Fibrebond specialises in manufacturing enclosures for electrical equipment, though has “found new life” producing them for data centres, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Graham was “grateful” that staff had “stuck with his company”. This led the big-hearted boss to include a condition in the agreement mandating a 15% payout to his workforce.
In June this year, the fortunate employees began receiving their windfall – a collective $240 million (roughly £177 million) distributed over five years.
Graham revealed to the publication: “Some spent it on day one, maybe even night number one. Ultimately, it’s their decision, good or bad.”
Staff have reportedly used their windfalls for a variety of purposes. Some chose to clear debts and university fees, boost their pension pots, or purchase vehicles, whilst one worker even treated his entire extended family to a trip in Cancún, Mexico.
Firebond employee Lesia Key, who used her bonus to clear her mortgage and launch a clothing boutique, expressed her gratitude: “Before, we were going paycheck to paycheck. I can live now; I’m grateful.”
In a similar vein, another generous employer from the UK recently lavished £100,000 on Christmas gifts for his staff, with one lucky individual even bagging a plush Range Rover.
Benjy Leslie, CEO of Connect Management, runs a festive initiative dubbed “Santa Leslie incentive” at his company. In the run-up to Christmas, the employee and salesperson of the day were invited to select a present from a display.
Among the other prizes were an iPhone, Ray-Ban Meta sunglasses, Olivia Dean tickets, AirPods, a scooter, and an Osmo camera. Chloe, the fortunate winner of a white Range Rover Evoque, was understandably “grateful” to her employer.
The company’s TikTok account shared the remarkable moment in a video, captioned: “There’s no way she won that at work.”
Meanwhile, Chloe described the experience as “absolutely insane”.
She exclaimed: “Absolutely insane. Forever grateful to work for the most amazing company in the WORLD! The streets of London better watch out.”
One TikTok user quipped: “How do I apply for a job here? I don’t even get a card from my work and have to work over Christmas.”
Another chimed in: “Think I need a new job.”
