EDF customers urged to sign up for free electricity in January | Personal Finance | Finance

EDF customers are being urged to kick-start their New Year savings by signing up for free electricity in January.

The major energy supplier is offering households four Sundays’ worth of free electricity over the next month, giving customers the chance to make big savings on their energy bills on January weekends. The freebie comes as part of the supplier’s ‘Sunday Saver’ challenge, which allows eligible customers to earn free electricity on Sundays by shifting their electricity use away from weekday peak hours, between 4pm and 7pm.

The more electricity customers shift away from these hours, the more free electricity they will earn for the following Sunday, with between four and 16 free hours up for grabs.

According to EDF, more than 210,000 customers have already benefited from its Sunday Saver initiative since it launched, saving more than £3.4 million on bills.

Registration for the Sunday Saver is now open, and customers have until 11.59pm on Sunday, January 4, to sign up, ahead of the challenge kicking off on Monday, January 5.

The Sundays when customers will be able to use their earned free electricity will be January 8, January 25 and February 8.

To be eligible for the challenge, customers must have a working smart meter for their electricity supply and be opted into half-hourly meter reads.

Customers can track their progress on the Energy Hub via MyAccount, where they can also access a personalised view of their household’s energy use.

Rich Hughes, Director of Retail at EDF, said: “January is a time when many people look for new ways to save after the festive period, so we’re delighted to resume our Sunday Saver challenge.

“Over 210,000 customers have been rewarded with free electricity as a result of adjusting their daily usage habits, reducing their carbon footprint and taking steps to contribute to a more sustainable electricity grid.”
