PS6 and new Xbox face delays already due to huge problem | Gaming | Entertainment

Just as excitement was starting to bubble for the next generation of console gaming, the PS6 and new Xbox look set to face considerable delays. While no specific launch windows have been confirmed by either Microsoft or Sony, with many assuming either 2027 or 2028 at the very earliest, reports suggest ongoing manufacturing issues have stifled any release plans.

This is unfortunate news for gamers hopeful of getting their hands on the new PlayStation or Xbox sooner rather than later. It sounds like these releases could be pushed back by months, if not years.

Insider Gaming claims recent RAM price increases could delay the launch of the PS6 and the next generation of Xbox.

Manufacturing costs are said to have shot up recently as AI companies snatch up vital components in large quantities to build data centres, which has in turn made RAM more scarce and subsequently more expensive.

As a result, Microsoft and Sony are reportedly considering delaying their new platforms to give enough time for prices to become more affordable.

Exact timelines remain uncertain, although launch predictions are now for 2029 and beyond.

It comes as gamers have already started saving for both consoles, which are expected to cost a few quid.

Just recently it emerged that material costs, believed to be upwards of $999, could lead to the new Xbox costing upwards of $1,000, with the PS6 a ‘cheaper’ $600.

All but confirming the rumours, Sarah Bond, the President of Xbox, said: “The next-gen console is going to be a very premium, very high-end curated experience.”

It’s not all doom and gloom, however, as the likes of Microsoft and Sony often sell their consoles at a loss. Companies often make up the shortfall through the sale of exclusive games and subscriptions.
