Nationwide update on demand for changes affecting 6 million customers | Personal Finance | Finance
Nationwide Building Society has issued an update about calls for changes to its online services. Customers can access many services through online banking and the app, such as making payments and transfers, and checking your account balance.
Members can also visit one of the group’s branches to access in-person services and get face-to-face help. A customer asked the provider about plans for new features on the app. More than six million customers use the app, according to the Nationwide website.
The person asked: “Are there any plans for an update to your app so customers can pay cheques in using their mobile banking app? Such a pain having to go in branch.”
Many banks offer the facility to pay in a cheque through the app. You can often do this by uploading a picture of the cheque with some other details about the payment.
Nationwide said in response: “Whilst this isn’t a feature we currently offer, we’re always looking to improve our products and services.” The provider invited the person to suggest the idea, by filling in a feedback form on the Nationwide website.
In light of the customer request, the mutual was asked if there are any plans to add a service so customers can cash in their cheques through the app. The provider said in response: “Nationwide does not currently offer the option to cash a cheque via the banking app.
“Customers can pay in a cheque at a Nationwide branch, via a smart ATM or via a drop box ATM.” If you don’t have access to a branch, you can send your cheque via the post to the provider.
In this case, you should send the cheque to your nearest Nationwide branch. More details about what information to include are available on the Nationwide website.
Announcement affecting over 690 branches
The group offered another piece of guidance about its in-person services. The group said: “Nationwide also recently announced that it will continue to keep every one of its 696 Nationwide and Virgin Money branches open until at least 2030.”
This includes 605 Nationwide Building Society branches. The group claims it is the only provider with a branch left in 133 local areas.
Dame Debbie Crosbie, CEO of Nationwide Building Society, said: “Our customers can be confident that they can bank with us whichever way they choose. Branches are important to our customers, to communities, and to the health of our high streets.
“That’s why Nationwide will continue to keep branches open in addition to our investment in online and telephone channels.”
