Who were the Anthony Joshua horror crash victims as two friends named | Boxing | Sport


The two victims of Monday’s fatal road traffic collision involving Anthony Joshua in Nigeria have been named as Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami. Both were close friends of the former heavyweight champion, and served as members of his team.

Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, has confirmed the boxer is being treated in hospital and is in a stable condition. The accident, which occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, is currently under investigation by local police.

Dramatic video footage has emerged showing Joshua in visible pain as he was rescued from the mangled wreckage of a Jeep following a fatal collision with a truck in Nigeria. The British boxer was travelling in the back seat at the time of the crash.

Below is a look at the two people who passed away in the crash and the roles they played in Joshua’s team. 

Sina Ghami

Sina Ghami served as Joshua’s strength and conditioning coach for over a decade. He is also the co-founder of Evolve Gym in London.

According to the gym’s website, Ghami is a certified sports and exercise rehabilitator who specialises in musculoskeletal injuries and corrective exercise. His impressive resume includes working with athletes from the National Football League (NFL), National Basketball Association (NBA) and Michigan State University football team.

Latif “Latz” Ayodele

Latif “Latz” Ayodele was Joshua’s personal trainer. His passion for the gym is clear on his social media pages, as is his dedication to Islam.

Originally, Kevin Ayodele, Latif played football for Aylesbury, but converted to Islam and went by the name Abdul Latif – AKA Latz. “Finding Islam in 2012 has been my biggest blessing,” he wrote in a pinned post from 2020.

A statement from Matchroom Boxing, Anthony Joshua’s promoter, said: “Anthony Joshua was involved in a road traffic accident in Lagos, Nigeria, earlier today.

“With profound sadness it has been confirmed that two close friends and team members Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele have tragically passed away. Matchroom Boxing and 258 BXG can confirm that Anthony sustained injuries in the accident and was taken to hospital for checks and treatment. He is in a stable condition and will remain there for observation.

“Our deepest condolences and prayers are with the families and friends of all those affected – and we ask that their privacy is respected at this incredibly difficult time. No further comment will be made at this time.”
