Trump caught on hot mic lamenting Nobel Peace Prize snub – ‘Do I get credit?’ | World | News


Donald Trump was caught in a hot mic moment as he appeared to lament his lack of a Nobel Peace Prize. The US President with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at Mar-a-Lago to discuss the ceasefire plan for Gaza.

A clip shared of the pair sitting down alongside their delegations to eat heard Trump say: “35 years of fighting and they stopped. Do I get credit for it? No.” He then started to say: “They gave the Nob…,” before being cut off, suggesting he was about to bemoan the fact he hadn’t won the Nobel Peace Prize. He continued: “How about India and Pakistan? So I did 8 of them. And then I’ll tell you the rest of it.”

Trump and Netanyahu have since spoken about their meeting in Florida. The Israeli leader described it as “very, very productuve” and hailed their “extraordinary friendship”.

He said: He’s achieved remarkable things in the Middle East because we worked together. We talk about our ideas. Sometimes we have different ideas, but we work it out, and most of the time we see eye to eye. But it’s been a remarkable experience and this was a very, very productive meeting.”

The Israeli Prime Minister also confirmed that Trump would receive the Israeli Peace Price – the highest civilian honour in the country. He added that the US President would receive the award for his “tremendous contributions to Israel and the Jewish people”.

Netanyahu said: “In almost our 80 years, we’ve never awarded it to a non-Israeli. And we’re going to award it this year to President Trump.”

During their meeting, the leaders spoke about the disarmament of Hamas. Trump said there will be “hell to pay” if they don’t disarm, adding the US was doing “every we can” to ensure the bod of the final hostage was released from Gaza.

He explained: “Horrible. That’s going to be really, really bad for them. And I don’t want that to happen. But they made an agreement that they were going to disarm.”

The US President also said he hopes Iran isn’t trying to build its missile programme. He added he doesn’t want to “waste a lot fuel” on seinding US bombers to the Middle East again.

Trump said: “If they are, we’re going to have no choice but very quickly to eradicate that build-up.

“I hope Iran is not trying to build up, as I’ve been reading, that they’re building up weapons and other things, and if they are, they’re not they’re not using the sites that we obliterated, but they’re using possibly different sites.”
