Battle of the Sexes court size explained as tennis fans left baffled | Tennis | Sport

The tennis world turned its attention to Dubai as the “Battle of the Sexes” saw Nick Kyrgios take on Aryna Sabalenka in a mixed-gender exhibition match. The event looked to emulate a famous match more than 50 years ago, when Billie Jean King beat Bobby Riggs in a defining moment for the sport.

Sabalenka, the women’s world number one, went into the match looking to add another famous win to her career so far. As for Kyrgios, he has struggled with injuries this year and hasn’t competed in the ATP Tour since March, but he was looking to put that behind him for an opportunity to feature in such a famous match.

The rules saw both play in a three-set match, though Sabalenka’s side of the court was nine percent smaller to supposedly compensate for the difference between the two at the top. Despite that, it was Kyrgios who took the early lead, taking the first set 6-3 on the afternoon.

The Australian then took control of the second set, winning it 6-3, taking the match in straight sets over Sabalenka. With that match now in the history books, there will be plenty of thoughts from fans, pundits and players alike on the exhibition.

So, with that said, here’s a look at how the match played out in pictures between Sabalenka and Kyrgios.
