‘Almost perfect’ Mission Impossible film airing on E4 tonight | Films | Entertainment
Fans are in for a treat tonight as E4 broadcasts what many consider to be ‘the best of the franchise’ – Mission Impossible: Fallout.
The sixth instalment in Tom Cruise’s beloved spy series, Mission Impossible: Fallout proved to be both a critical darling and commercial triumph.
The 2018 blockbuster raked in an impressive $791 million globally from a $178 million budget, becoming the franchise’s highest-grossing entry and Cruise’s biggest earner until Top Gun: Maverick soared past it.
Starring Tom Cruise alongside Rebecca Ferguson, Henry Cavill and Simon Pegg, the film sees Cruise reprise his iconic role as Ethan Hunt.
He and his team are tasked with recovering three stolen plutonium cores from the terrorist organisation Apostles, who are collaborating with the extremist John Lark.
When an IMF operation goes awry, the stakes escalate dramatically as the Apostles scheme to deploy the cores in a coordinated nuclear strike designed to poison water supplies and trigger catastrophic loss of life.
With Hunt’s allegiance called into question by the CIA, he’s forced to partner with CIA operative August Walker, whose real identity is subsequently exposed.
The film boasts an exceptional 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with one enthusiastic viewer awarding it five stars and declaring: “Easily the best MI ever but might just be the greatest action movie of all times.”, reports the Mirror.
Another viewer awarded it five stars, saying: “It’s Tom Cruise doing wild stunts, what more do you need? Go watch it!” One enthusiastic five-star review said: “This thing stands out in a series of excellent action movies as the MOST excellent action movie. Like the whole franchise was built for this moment,”.
A further fan added: “Easily the best mission impossible movie. A series of tight set pieces with everything you want, including guns, car chases, motor cycles, and boats. There is one great moment after another and concludes the storyline with the most interesting bad guy in the series. A must see!”.
A fifth viewer said: “Best Mission impossible movie. Tom cruise and the whole cast did an incredible job with their roles and the villain twist was awesome. This Film is the pinnacle of the mission impossible franchise.”
Meanwhile, another added: “One of the best movies I ever seen and incredibly entertaining.”
Several reviewers singled out a particular action sequence, with one fan saying: “Love so many action scenes from this movie with Henry Cavill and Tom Cruise. The fight scenes they have in the bathroom and the skydive before it are so cool.”
The skydive in question is the breathtaking High Altitude Low Opening (HALO) jump, which saw Tom Cruise and Henry Cavill plummeting from 25,000 feet—a spectacular stunt that demanded 12 months of meticulous preparation, bespoke oxygen helmets, and a staggering 106 jumps to capture perfectly. In typical fashion, Cruise performed several perilous stunts himself, including a helmet-less motorcycle pursuit through Paris, a rooftop foot chase across London, and flying the helicopter in the final chase sequence.
