Iconic 70s film Grease slapped with trigger warning by ITV | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

A beloved blockbuster family film has been slapped with a trigger warning by ITV. The 1978 movie ‘Grease’ is now available on ITVX and has issued a warning to viewers about ‘teenage misbehaviour’. The musical comedy stars John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John as Danny Zuko and Sandy Olsson, and was the highest-grossing musical of its time. In the UK, Grease has a PG rating, indicating it is suitable for young children and families. The movie follows Danny and Sandy’s teenage love affair as they attend high school, and includes classic songs such as “Grease Lightning,” “You’re the One That I Want,” and “Hopelessly Devoted to You.”

Free Speech Union leader Toby Lord Young told The Sun: “It seems a little dated for ITV to warn parents that Grease may contain teenage misbehaviour.”

“Most parents would be absolutely delighted if the only bad behaviour that their teenage children got up to was occasionally mooning a passing car.”

Express have contacted ITV for comment.

On ITVX, the film guidelines state that the classic contains ‘mild language and teenage misbehaviour.’ During the flick, insults like ‘jerk’ and ‘moron’ are mentioned, as well as words such as ‘damn’, ‘hell’ and ‘c**p.’

During one scene with Danny and Sandy, the pair are at an American drive-in theatre and, when he leans in to kiss her, she gets upset and runs off, leaving Danny alone.

The cliques also have plenty of hangouts, which include flirtatious behaviour. Pink Ladies member Rizzo, played by Stockard Channing, also sneaks out late at night.

It comes after another beloved sitcom was hit with a disclaimer warning by ITV, advising viewers that the show contains “sexual themes, nude images and moderate language throughout”.

Auf Wiedersehen, Pet has all their episodes available to stream on ITVX, and the sitcom follows a group of British builders stationed in Germany. Starring major celebrities such as Timothy Spall and Tim Healy, the beloved series follows the group and their capers as they pursue high wages.
