Saliba latest injury news and FPL status for Arsenal vs Brentford | Football | Sport

Arsenal may be without William Saliba for their Premier League clash against Brentford on Wednesday. The French defender was absent from Sunday’s match at Stamford Bridge due to an injury picked up in training.

Mikel Arteta, speaking about Saliba’s absence, said: “Yesterday in training he was uncomfortable, so we need to explore a little bit more what happened. I don’t think it’s something major, but enough not to be involved in the game.” Instead, Piero Hincapie and Cristhian Mosquera were chosen as the central defensive pair in a 1-1 draw between Chelsea and Arsenal in west London.

Moises Caicedo was sent off just before half-time for a late tackle on Mikel Merino. Trevoh Chalobah then put the hosts ahead three minutes into the second half, scoring with a header from a corner that looped past David Raya at the near post.

However, the Premier League leaders quickly equalised, with Merino heading in a goal at the other end of the pitch after 59 minutes. This was only the second match of the season that Saliba has missed for Arsenal, having played in every game except the Gunners’ 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest in September due to an ankle injury.

But how long will Saliba be out of Arsenal’s first team? And will he be fit to play against Brentford this week? The Daily Express explains…

What has been said about Saliba’s injury?

Following his injury, Saliba is now scheduled to undergo scans and tests to determine the full severity of the problem, which will establish the length of his absence. Speaking about the defender, Arteta said: “I think he has got another test tomorrow, Willy, see to the extent of that feeling, that sensation that he had, and we will know more.”

Whilst he may be available to feature against Brentford, it appears premature to confirm given the limited information provided about Saliba’s condition since the Chelsea fixture.

Will Saliba be fit enough to play in Gameweek 14?

Fantasy Premier League give Saliba a 75 per cent chance of featuring against Brentford this week, despite the severity of his knock remaining unclear. It could prove a significant setback for FPL managers, considering the defender has been pivotal to Arsenal’s campaign this season, and has contributed to his side recording five clean sheets in the Premier League.

With Gabriel also currently unavailable through injury, it could provide FPL managers who have selected Brentford stars like Igor Thiago, Kevin Schade, Reiss Nelson and Dango Ouattara a potential advantage, given that the club have netted 21 goals this term in total and remain a threat in attack.
