‘Rollercoaster’ thriller with Twilight star ‘like never before’ | Films | Entertainment

A ‘messed up’ thriller boasting an impressive 94 per cent rating has landed on Netflix.

Originally released in cinemas in 2024, the film is now available to stream from home. It arrived on the platform on December 1, making it instantly accessible to subscribers.

Set in 1989, the story follows reclusive gym manager Lou, who becomes infatuated with Jackie, an ambitious bodybuilder passing through town en route to Las Vegas to chase her dreams.

But their romance sparks violence, dragging them into the dangerous world of Lou’s criminal family.

Twilight star Kristen Stewart leads the cast as Lou, alongside Katy O’Brian as Jackie, who previously featured in Ant Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and several episodes of The Walking Dead. Dave Franco and Ed Harris also star.

One reviewer highlighted the powerful performances, especially Stewart’s departure from familiar territory, stating: “Love Lies Bleeding is an intriguing blend of family crime drama and a twisted love story. The film is propelled by strong performances, particularly from Kristen Stewart, who takes on a character unlike any we’ve seen from her before.”

Another viewer agreed, writing: “Love Lies Bleeding certainly meets expectations as it stars Kristen Stewart, as never seen before, within this brooding, dark tale depicting love against the odds, a road trip, a criminal thriller and more to unveil a gritty, intoxicating mix.”

One review declared: “An extremely engaging, stylized, and watchable experience that makes excellent use of all of its assets.”

Enthusiastic fans also took to social media to share their thoughts, with one posting: “Love Lies Bleeding is a total rollercoaster, and the whole group was all in for the ride. From the moment the film started, everyone was hooked by its raw, intense atmosphere. The movie pulls you into a world of obsession, addiction, and crime, all wrapped in a beautifully bleak and stylish package.”

Another viewer praised: “Incredible film! A steamy, sweaty film that explores toxic abusive relationships through people, substance abuse and familial relationships. I was not expecting the story to turn in that way and the soundtrack was amazing to really immerse you into the film.”

Nevertheless, some viewers felt compelled to issue warnings about the film’s content. One person cautioned: “Warning that the film is both sexually explicit and graphically violent. I put that up front because if you start streaming the movie and turn it off, you will likely get the wrong impression of what ‘Love Lies Bleeding’ has to offer. In context, everything in the film that is OTT is meaningfully so. Meaning it isn’t just lazy.”

Another viewer likened the film to Quentin Tarantino’s work, describing it as a “Tarantino-esque fun and messed up movie with steamy scenes.”

Love Lies Bleeding is streaming on Netflix.
