Airline offers free flights for Brits from this week – full list of 49 destinations | Asia | Travel

An airline is offering Brits and Europeans free domestic flights in Japan from this week. All Nippon Airways is offering the free flights to 49 locations to encourage tourists to go to lesser-visited areas in the country after overtourism has hit places Tokyo and Kyoto.

The Japan National Tourism Organisation (JNTO) has teamed up with the airline to deliver these free flights across the airline’s entire regional network. It will run between November 24 and January 31, 2026.

As part of a “Stopover & Add-on Free Fare” offer, eligible economy passengers from the UK and Europe can book up to two free domestic flights on an international booking by January 31. The actual departures of these flights can be booked any time beyond January 31.

It means that if you want to fly to, say, Hiroshima or Okinawa, it won’t cost you anything more than flying out to Tokyo, even with your connecting flights from there. Taxes and fees will still apply for the free flights however and is subject to availability. You can deal through travel agents, ANA offices outside of Japan or directly through ANA.

A record 36.9 million tourists visited Japan in 2024 but less than 10% of them actually visited regional areas – despite 90% of them saying they wanted to. This initiative is to help get people out of the overtourism spots and to see the rest of beautiful Japan.
