The fairytale UK town that’s just 1 hour from London | Travel News | Travel

If you’re looking for a pretty place to visit, there’s one stunning town that has gained a huge reputation among tourists.

Rye in East Sussex has been named by travel blog Pocket Wanderings as one of the prettiest fairytale towns in the UK, and it’s easy to see why.

The town is known for its cosy pubs, quaint streets and historical look.

Built on smuggled secrets and timeless tales, Rye has nooks and crannies to explore and distant views across Romney Marsh to ponder, says Visit 1066 Country.

One must visit place in the area is Rye Harbour Nature Reserve. A visitor on Tripadvisor said: “I walked around both sides of this reserve. I’m not much of a bird watcher outside of my own garden but I went into one of the hides, opened the window and saw so many birds going about their day. Being the only person there made it rather peaceful. Lovely setting, worth a visit.

You can get to the town in just an hour from London and it has become a popular destination for those living in the capital to visit.

Rye is a small place, with a population of under 5,000 according to Time Out.

While you can see it in a day, it’s also a great place to take a slower pace trip to.

If you’re looking for a weekend away, there’s definitely enough to do and see to make a bigger trip out of it.

Another must-see place in the town is its castle. One person on Tripadvisor said: “Rye is stunning, so full of history you can feel it. Wonderful shops and pubs, for me the Mermaid Inn is the most stunning and well worth a visit.”

If you’re looking for a quiet weekend away, Rye could be the perfect place for you.
