Amazon has the latest Google Pixel at its ‘lowest ever’ price as Black Friday hots up
Black Friday is no longer just one day. Instead, it now spans the month of November, often spilling into December, making it tricky to keep up with all the latest tech deals. It’s also very hard to tell if a price is going to last longer than a few days when a particularly good offer crops up, such as this saving on Amazon on the latest mid-range Google Pixel phone.
The excellent Google Pixel 9a is on sale for £349, a handsome £150 saving on its £499 RRP.
I’ve been a tech journalist for a decade, and the Pixel A-series phones have been a go-to recommendation of mine ever since the Pixel 3a in 2019. I love the Pixel 9a, the latest A-series version released in April, but I was less than thrilled about the price creeping up to £499, making it the most expensive Pixel A ever.
This early Black Friday offer from Amazon helps, bringing the price back down to a much more palatable £349. You get a lot of phone for that money – although Google also sells the Pixel 10, 10 Pro and 10 Pro XL for hundreds more, you really don’t miss out on that much when you opt for the 9a.
A quick check on handy Amazon price tracker site Camelcamelcamel shows this is the cheapest the Pixel 9a has sold for, the previous lowest ever price being £359.10 back in August.
As a side note, if you don’t want to buy from Amazon, fear not. The Pixel 9a is £349 from several retailers at the moment including Argos, Currys and Google itself.
I reviewed the Pixel 9a when it came out earlier this year, and if I had a budget of less than £500 to spend on a phone, it’d be top of my list.
It boasts a simple (read: slightly boring) design, but that includes no camera bump for the dual rear cameras, which is very rare on a smartphone these days. Those cameras, especially the main lens, take exceptionally good shots for a phone of this price. I’d still recommend a Pixel over an iPhone in this price bracket for reliability of consistently good still images.
Available in black, white, purple or a fetching pink, the phone has a 6,3-inch OLED display with 120Hz refresh rate for smooth scrolling and feel. The 5,100mAh battery is also generous, and this is a phone that easily lasts all day in my experience.
It’s powered by Google’s Tensor G4 processor, which suits mid-range hardware, coupled with 8GB RAM to keep things ticking over nicely. It’s IP68 water and dust resistant so should survive an unplanned dip in the bath, and comes with Google’s Android 16 software.
Part of the Pixel 9a’s appeal is it has the same great Google Android software you’ll find on other Pixels that cost hundreds more. The 9a lacks some of the software and AI features of the pricier Pixels, but I think that works to its advantage – here, you get all the best parts of a Pixel without all the annoying AI guff forced on you with the premium handsets.
Google’s website says it’ll discount the Pixel 9a to £349 until December 3 – that doesn’t mean Amazon will have it that cheap for that long, but at least you know you can grab it from Google if you’re reading this and it’s no longer on sale elsewhere.
