Alexander Isak to Liverpool is ‘done’ as Newcastle set to agree on final transfer fee | Football | Sport
Alexander Isak’s move to Liverpool is reportedly on the verge of being confirmed, with Newcastle United said to have accepted an offer from the Reds. The striker has been linked with a move to Anfield for the majority of the summer, and it now looks as if Isak has been granted his wish.
Liverpool have already seen one offer for the Swede knocked back by Newcastle, with a £120million bid having been submitted earlier in the window. Newcastle made it abundantly clear they were only willing to sell if their valuation was matched, and they were able to secure appropriate replacements in the attacking department.
Newcastle securing the signing of Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart was confirmed on Saturday morning, with suggestions that has helped soften their stance on allowing Isak to leave. Transfer insider Jan Aage Fjortoft is now claiming a deal has been struck between Newcastle and Liverpool, with a fee in the region of £130m being spoken about.
Arne Slot was quizzed on the likelihood of Isak joining before the end of the window, with the Liverpool boss replying: “Newcastle have signed a new No.9 which is very nice for Eddie [Howe]. Newcastle, if it’s true, and I have no reason to not believe what you are saying, are about to sign a new No. 9.
“That’s very nice for Eddie as Anthony Gordon is suspended and Alexander Isak has not been training with the team, so it’s nice to have a new No 9. I think I said after Monday, I could make a sub to impact the game. As always we try to sign players to help us but there are no reasons to think after two games we need more. We will always try to strengthen if it’s the right player at the right price. There are only a few days left (of the transfer window being open), so let’s see. There are only three or four days to go now, so let’s see if we do something.”
