Stop visiting Mykonos and Santorini – this Greek island is less busy | Europe | Travel
Greece is a popular European holiday destination for Brits, especially in summer.
UK tourists who want to go abroad in the summer months without travelling too far often choose to fly to Greece as most flights are less than four hours. Greece is famous for its iconic white buildings, beaches and rich history with ancient ruins.
Many Brits flock to well-known Greek islands, like Mykonos and Santorini, but these can get crowded in summer months. There are some alternatives which are just as beautiful but are less busy.
Dorota Urbaniak is a travel content creator based in Essex who shares tips, inspiration and hotel recommendations with a focus on European trips. She recently highlighted the Greek island Paros in a video on TikTok.
The travel fan pointed out that “not every Greek island is busy in summer”. She showed how quiet Paros was from morning until evening on one day during her visit.
Paros is a Greek island in the Aegean Sea best known for its beaches and traditional villages. It is in the centre of the Cyclades Islands and has many golden-sand beaches, verdant mountains and cliff-top villages.
The two main villages are Parikia and Naoussa, which are “at the heart of the island’s nightlife beats”, according to Greeka. These villages are packed with “traditional taverns, luxurious restaurants and sophisticated bars.”
Tourists who aren’t fans of loud music can wander through the peaceful villages of Lefkes and Marpissa. Dorota’s TikTok video includes clips of Paros from 9am to 8pm highlighting how peaceful and quiet the island is as she walked down the streets and relaxed on a sandy beach.
She also showcased the white buildings, a restaurant with outdoor tables by the sea and beautiful vibrant flowers. In the caption of her TikTok post she wrote: “I’m only saying…not every Greek island is busy in summer.”
All the clips in her video presented Paros as being relaxing and free from crowds. Greeka mentions that the island is particularly well-known for its “stunning” beaches, including Santa Maria, Golden Beach and Kolymbithres which are some of the most famous ones.
However, the Greek tourism website notes that there are also many secluded beaches for those looking for some privacy. The weather in Paros is hot and sunny in summer but mild in winter and it “gets very humid at night”, as per Greeka.
Paros is a top destination for water sports, such as windsurfing and kitesurfing, as it has ideal wind conditions, thanks to the Meltemi winds, strong, dry, northerly winds that blow across the Aegean Sea during the summer months. The island is easily reachable by plane from the International Airport of Athens and by ferry from the ports of Athens (Piraeus, Rafina and Lavrio), Mykonos, Santorini Naxos, and plenty more Cycladic islands.
In the comment section of her TikTok video, Dorota repeated that “not every Greek island is busy” and urged her followers to “choose wisely.” One user commented: “I need to go asap” and another described Paros as “amazing.”
