Man Utd can complete two transfers this week as summer window opens again | Football | Sport

Manchester United made a statement start to a crucial summer transfer window by sealing the £62.5million signing of Matheus Cunha before the first of its two deadlines. But the Red Devils have plenty of work left to do if they are to escape their rut next season, and the transfer window is once again open until it shuts for good on September 1.

Ruben Amorim needs outgoings just as much as incomings as he attempts to reshape his drastically underperforming squad ahead of his first full season at the helm. He could get one of each in the opening week of the main summer transfer window if United make the required progress in talks. The Old Trafford giants’ immediate priority must be finding a breakthrough in their pursuit of Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo.

Brentford rejected an initial bid worth £45million plus £10m in add-ons as they search for a guaranteed £60m for their star man.

Mbeumo has reportedly chosen a move to United as his preferred option this summer, snubbing interest from Arsenal, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur.

However, those reports emerged before Spurs announced Mbeumo’s manager, Thomas Frank, as Ange Postecoglou‘s successor.

That development is claimed to have intrigued the 25-year-old as Frank targets a stunning hijack of United’s interest.

Yet, Mbeumo is still believed to favour an Old Trafford switch, which leaves the two clubs to work on a compromise over his transfer fee.

Given almost two weeks have passed since United’s opening offer was rebuffed, a follow-up attempt to sign the Cameroon international is surely imminent.

Rasmus Hojlund‘s exit could clear the space for Mbeumo as Inter Milan reportedly push forward with plans to pursue the 22-year-old.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter’s summer budget falls slightly short of United’s £38m asking price, which is almost as low as they can go without making a capital loss.

The Serie A giants are said to be instead preparing to try and convince the Red Devils to agree to an initial loan deal with the option to make it permanent next summer.

They reportedly plan to do this by offering a significant loan fee, which would boost Amorim’s budget while also lower Hojlund’s price in 12 months.

Should Inter’s interest formulate into a concrete offer, United likely won’t hesitate to offload the struggling Dane if they deem it suitable.

In truth, no business regarding United feels imminent, but work will be continuing behind the scenes to try and prevent another disastrous season.
