‘I’ve been to every country in the world, there’s one European city I’d avoid’ | Travel News | Travel
World traveller and popular YouTuber Drew Binsky, who has explored every country on Earth, has ranked all 50 European nations, and his least favourite might not be what you expect.
Binsky, known for his engaging documentaries on global cultures and travel experiences, assessed countries based on factors such as friendliness, affordability, cuisine, nightlife, historical significance, and authenticity.
Despite its grand religious and artistic importance, Vatican City ranked at the very bottom of his list.
The microstate, which serves as the headquarters of the Catholic Church, is home to iconic landmarks like St. Peter’s Basilica and the Sistine Chapel.
However, Binsky found the experience underwhelming due to the logistical challenges of visiting.
“There are no hotels to stay in overnight,” he explained. “If you try to sleep on the street, you’ll get arrested. It’s a place you visit for a few hours.”
He also warned of long queues for the Vatican’s main attractions, advising tourists to arrive early or invest in fast-pass tickets.
While Binsky acknowledged the Vatican’s undeniable cultural and historical value, he believes it is more of a one-time visit than a place travellers would return to again and again.
Despite his criticism, Vatican City remains a global tourism hotspot, drawing millions of visitors annually to its artistic and religious treasures.
The Vatican Museums house an extraordinary collection of ancient sculptures and Renaissance masterpieces, while the Sistine Chapel’s ceiling, painted by Michelangelo, is considered one of the greatest achievements in art history.
On the opposite end of the ranking, Binsky crowned the Czech Republic as his top European destination.
He praised its stunning Gothic architecture, medieval charm, and affordability, including the appeal of £2 beers.
Other standout destinations in his ranking included Serbia, which he described as home to some of the friendliest people in Europe, Spain for its incredible cuisine and nightlife, Iceland for its breathtaking natural beauty, and Ukraine for its rich history and cultural resilience.
