Top 5 ZX Spectrum games to add to The Spectrum | Gaming | Entertainment

A recreation of the classic ZX Spectrum computer, The Spectrum is one of the must-have retro gaming gifts this Christmas.

The Spectrum supports 720p HD output via HDMI and comes with four USB ports for controllers and joysticks. Multiple save states are available for each game, alongside a rewind feature, CRT filters and even basic programming functionality.

Of course, what we all really care about are the 48 built-in retro gaming classics that are playable out of the box.

The Spectrum includes Manic Miner, The Hobbit, Target: Renegade, Skool Daze and The Great Escape.

And don’t worry if your favourite isn’t included, because you can add your own games to the system via USB.

Check out the list below for a selection of games to add to The Spectrum…

Fantasy World Dizzy

You can pretty much take your pick of any Dizzy game to add to The Spectrum, because they’re all great.

My particular favourite is Fantasy World Dizzy because I love the setting and puzzles. You pick up and drop items which can be used to navigate through the world.

You can also talk to other characters and find hidden secrets, making this worth a replay or two.

Knight Lore on ZX Spectrum

Despite the primitive visuals and simple colour scheme, Knight Lore is a fantastic adventure game with a lot of atmosphere.

The aim of the game is to explore a castle and collect items to cure your werewolf curse.

The isometric graphics and puzzle gameplay were hugely influential, making Knight Lore one of the most important releases in the ZX Spectrum’s history.

Deathchase for ZX Spectrum

Deathchase

When you’re talking about games that were ahead of their time, Deathchase should be near the top of the list.

It’s also near the top of the list for best ZX Spectrum games, featuring blisteringly fast 3D vehicular combat.

The aim of the game is to pursue and destroy two bikes using your mounted machine guns, all the while avoiding trees and other obstacles.

JetPac on ZX Spectrum

JetPac on ZX Spectrum

JetPac is a ZX Spectrum classic for a reason, featuring addictive arcade action that’s simple to pick up and play but hard to master.

You’ll fly around stages collecting fuel or rocket parts, all the while defending yourself from the many enemies blocking your path.

If you’re a fan of JetPac, then it’s also worth checking out Rare Replay on Xbox, where you can play the original and remake.
