The UK town with stunning castle named cheapest place to get a pint – it’s under £3 | Travel News | Travel
The cost of living continues to rise, and so does the price of a night out. However, there is one city in the UK where you can still enjoy a pint for less than £3 – and it boasts a castle too.
Bangor, the oldest city in Wales with roots dating back to the early 6th century AD, is renowned for its magnificent cathedral and top-ranking university.
Now, it has another feather in its cap.
According to research by UK Debt Expert, Bangor offers the cheapest pint in the UK, costing a mere £2.63. Among ten cities surveyed, Bangor was the only one offering a pint under £3.
This makes it 123 percent cheaper than London, where the average pint now costs £5.88. But Bangor has more to offer than just affordable drinks.
A short drive from the city centre takes you to the historic Penrhyn Castle and Garden, a National Trust property.
Here, visitors can spend a day exploring before returning to the city to enjoy a pint in one of the many cosy pubs, reports the Mirror.
The castle features opulent interiors, a fine art collection, and stunning exterior architecture.
Located on the Menai Straits, the castle provides a backdrop of the Eryri (Snowdonia) summits and is surrounded by lush, open parkland.
Additionally, the beautiful Garth Pier, stretching nearly half a kilometre into the sea, is one of the most impressive surviving Victorian piers in Wales.
This delightful coastal location is adorned with stalls offering locally crafted arts and crafts, as well as refreshments and snacks.
