With summer well and truly over, many Brits are secretly embracing the colder weather – waiting patiently until it’s socially acceptable to bring out the tinsel and listen to Mariah Carey every day.

If you’re wanting to combine your love for all things Xmas with your penchant for travelling, look no further than the postcard picture town of Montreux in Switzerland.

Known for its stunning Christmas markets and lights display (which features Santa flying through the air, naturally) – Montreux Noel is the second best thing to being invited to the Elve’s workshop in the North pole.

There’s glorious food shacks, souvenir shops galore, and a pretty high chance of snow. TikTok user Abena went viral after showing off her time in the festive hotspot, describing the country as a ‘literal dream’.

“Just a reminder that this is what Switzerland will look like in three months,” she captioned the post. Thousands of impressed viewers flocked to the comments section to tag their friends and family in the video.

“Oh Lord let me experience a Switzerland Christmas,” raved one user. “This is my dream place to travel.” Another agreed, commenting: “This is exactly the reason I want to go.”

A third added: “Suddenly I need to be in Switzerland,” while a fourth penned: “I went a few years ago and it was so magical. If you get a chance, do it!”

There is no airport in Montreux itself, but you can can easily fly into Geneva and take an hour’s drive or train journey to the winter wonderland.

Most major UK airports, including Manchester, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Belfast, Heathrow and London Gatwick, offer direct flights – which only take around one hour and 45 minutes.
